A challenging sloping site at the rear of the house formed the main garden view from the kitchen and an opportunity to develop a ‘living tapestry’ brief. Colour, scent and pretty seasonal interest was added with David Austin roses, geraniums, lavender and bulbs.
Framing the knot garden on one side were five terraced beds that additionally served as a backdrop to the drive. These were planted with shrubs and herbs, soft fruit, cutting flowers and attractive structured planting. On the other side conditions and aspect were favourable to Mediterranean theme. Here a mature olive tree was imported as a focal point and surrounded by agapanthuses, grasses, salvias and lots of bulbs giving it a much more relaxed feel.

‘Sarah was great to work with and really captured the essence of my brief. From the outset, she knew what I wanted in terms of design, colour and texture. Sarah’s designs and mood boards were detailed and easy to follow, so that you had a good idea of the end result. I also asked Sarah to plant the garden and her team were reliable and really hard working. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sarah for a garden design project’.
