GARDEN DESIGN

This dry and flinty garden in which few plants thrived had my clients stumped. They also faced some awkward level changes and slopes that they didn’t know what to do with. More hard landscaping was needed to give the garden structure and smaller lawns which could be more easily maintained and watered. Introducing raised planters broadened the potential choice of plants that they could grow.

The brief included a studio space with a green roof built in to the slope at the back of the garden as a place to display works of art, and a nice pathway through the garden to take potential clients to see them. A further challenge was addressing the exposure to wind by introducing shelter. To futureproof it was necessary to allocate space for the installation of a natural swimming pond.
